Most people open Claude, type a question, and get a generic answer. That is using Claude like a search engine. The results feel generic because the inputs were generic. These five shifts change everything.
1. Give it your actual life
Instead of asking for side hustle ideas, tell Claude your schedule, budget, and skills. Specific in means specific out. Compare give me side hustle ideas with I have 10 hours a week, $200 to invest, and I am good at customer service, give me 5 specific ideas and realistic 90 day earnings. The second gets a completely different and far more useful answer.
2. Push back on the first answer
Claude's first response is almost never its best one. After any response, type: go deeper on option two, or give me a version for someone with no experience, or simply make it more specific. The second and third responses are almost always significantly better.
3. Give it a role to play
Start important prompts with act as. Act as an experienced copywriter. Act as a cold email specialist. Claude responds completely differently with a clear frame. The outputs become more authoritative and more useful for the specific situation.
4. Use it to validate before you build
Before spending time or money, ask Claude to poke holes in your idea. Ask it to list every reason your plan might not work. Treat the list as a roadmap of problems to solve before they become expensive mistakes.
5. Ask it to write like a human
Add to any writing prompt: write in plain conversational language, no jargon, no filler, sound like a real person not a press release. The outputs immediately feel more natural. Cold emails get better response rates. Social captions stop feeling robotic.
